Marks Point is a lakeside suburb
of Lake Macquarie (which is four times the size of Sydney Harbour). It is
located only half an hour from Newcastle or an hour and a half from Sydney
making it the perfect choice for a holiday destination. surrounded by lakes,
bays and beaches it is a great holiday spot for those who love the water!
The area itself is named after
Charles Marks who, along with his brother, Henry bought some land on the point
and built an orchard. Oranges and pineapples were the main produce. Henry
Marks sold his share in the orchard to Charles in 1885 and Charles lived in the
area until he died.
Now there are many types of residential buildings and homes that make up the suburb, from luxurious five
bedroom homes to one bedroom cottages. There is a marina, bowling club, and some
small corner shops in the main street.
The local beaches are only a
short drive away (Blacksmiths Beach, Caves Beach or Redhead) or you can just
relax near the waters edge and enjoy the sounds of nature. The historic
mining town of Catherine Hill Bay is a ten minute drive south, but for those
wanting more of an urban experience go North and visit Newcastle and its famous
Nobby's Beach.
